A to Z Challenge - M

M is for Mango and Mustard Greens.

Mango Lassi
For me, the mango lassi will forever be associated with a certain time in my life when Indian food was too cool, and so exotic. Truthfully, the places we went back then, on Saturday bus trips to Boston, probably weren't very good. They had cool decor and smelled of spices I couldn't name, which was enough for us. We always finished our meal with a mango lassi (if we had enough money...) Nowadays, we are spoiled for excellent Indian food all over Dubai. Each regional cuisine is represented here from super swanky to hole-in-the-wall. I miss those places, sometimes, possibly the company more than the food.

In a blender, combine the flesh of 2 or 3 very ripe, very sweet mangoes with 2 cups of plain yogurt, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 cup Demerara or Jagery sugar, and a dash of cardamom powder. Blend until smooth, serve cold.

Mustard Greens
Mustard greens are really from mustard, who knew? I always thought they were a type of collard. The World's Healthiest Foods Website has way more info about mustard greens that you ever wanted to know. They are kind of stunningly healthy. Basically, these are your blanch 'em and saute 'em sort of tough green leaves, nice with lots of garlic and or curry.
