I want a veggie burger that doesnt taste like a bun on a bun. Or that isnt too salty which I think even the better brands of veggie burgers suffer from. But so far, I'm not there. Tonight, I made this burger, which is about 1/2 vegetable and it was eaten with gusto by all three of the food-critics at large who live with me.
1/2 lb ground beef (90/10)
1/2 lb baby portabella (crimini) mushrooms
1/2 package of thawed frozen spinach
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
Whatever else turns you on (herbs and spices-wise...)
Pulse the mushrooms in a food processor until crumbly. Mix with meat spinach and other ingredients. Broil. Top with cheese. The only trick is that because of the mushrooms and spinach, you may find your burgers a little wet and need to broil them a few minutes longer on each side than normal.
Happy little boy belly fat with burger before bed...
